Story

Get to Know Us

In Japanese, one of the various meanings of “ie” is “building”, and opening shortly in the heart of San Gimignano in a historic building, ieedificio57 is a new non-profit research centre for the visual arts that aims to host domestic and international events.

Transformed from a family home in an ancient building, the premises of ie edificio57 comprises exhibition spaces on two levels and an underground project room named “Zattera” (“Raft”).

Spearheaded by artist Michelangelo Consani, this new cultural platform intends to establish connections between the artist’s own artistic practices and that of different personalities from the art world. Through this medium, Consani seeks to attain a better understanding of the sensibilities and planning processes of the hosted artist by way of forging a dialogue with another artist towards whom he feels a sense of “sentimental affinity”.

The first artist invited into a dialogue of this nature is Loris Cecchini.

Mohsen Baghernejad Moghanjooghi (Tehran, 1988)

lives and works in Turin; here he attends the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts, where he graduates in 2020. Having arrived in Italy for fashion, he works as a textile designer for a studio in Como, continuing the collaboration until 2019. The transfer takes place in 2011 after having worked for five years as an assistant in an architectural studio. This experience, together with the work as a building restorer carried out at the Rava studio, brings him closer to the use of building materials such as cement mortars, bricks and stone, and to the study of their use in past civilizations, such as lime-based mortars. In 2017, together with 9 other artists, he founded the independent collective Bastione: a place of exchange and research that promotes emerging contemporary artistic realities. Since 2025, he has transformed the D’io Bio project, born during the residency of a Boccata d’Arte in Calabria, into a farm, aimed at researching and cultivating mushrooms. His most recent activities include: Respira e muta, solo exhibition, Bari (BA) Project; D’io Bio, Santa Severina (KR) ; Summer love Welcome home, group exhibition, ME Vannucci art gallery (PT, 2023); PerPIRUZ, solo exhibition, Associazione Bastione (TO, 2022).
